I AM ALSO A WE
branding + advocacy campaign
"I Am Also A We" is addresses mental health and illnesses, a topic that isn't discussed enough within the Asian community. Many immigrant Asians have no concept of mental health or illnesses, and considers mental health to be a purely "Western" concept designed to be utilized as an excuse for incompetence and laziness. Many view individuals with mental issues as genealogically weak and "crazy". Those who do reach out for help often find that psychotherapy and medication are poor fits, assuming these methods are designed for "Western" people. This view of mental health affects American-born descendants. The stigma of mental health and illness in the Asian American community stands in the way of those who want to seek help.
I photographed my peers, and framed their eyes with crinkled paper. To give each poster their own personalities, I gathered each peer's written anecdotes about their personal encounters with mental issues they aren't able to admit out loud.
My campaign drives the audience through empowerment. The GIFs and t-shirts contains phrases or words from their corresponding posters. The pins are simple, displaying the campaign title.
